Three minor siblings among four injured in cylinder blast

Four people, including three minor siblings, were injured in a powerful explosion caused by a CNG cylinder at a godown in northeast Delhis Sunder Nagri area on Saturday afternoon, police said. The blast occurred around 4:30 pm at a facility reportedly used for the storage and repair of old CNG cylinders. According to a senior police official, the explosion took place during a repair operation when a cylinder suddenly burst, triggering a strong shockwave that caused significant damage to the structure and nearby properties. The blast was so intense that it broke the iron gate of the godown. Debris from the explosion flew out and struck three children — aged four, seven, and nine — who were playing just outside the premises, the officer said. A 25-year-old worker, identified as Arshad, who was inside the godown at the time of the incident, also sustained injuries. All four injured individuals were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital authorities have confirmed that the condition of all the victims is currently stable. While the explosion did not result in a fire, the impact caused structural damage to the godown and affected some surrounding buildings. Police and emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area and initiating an investigation. Crime and Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) teams were also dispatched to the site. They have collected samples and forensic evidence to determine the exact cause of the blast. Legal action has been initiated against the owner of the godown. Appropriate sections under law are being invoked, the officer added, noting that the investigation will also examine whether the repair operations were being conducted in violation of safety protocols and industrial norms.
