Retired Government staff to get membership at Dwarka golf club

  • | Wednesday | 4th June, 2025

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, on Tuesday, approved the proposal to grant retired Government servants membership at the Delhi Development Authoritys (DDA) newly developed Dwarka Golf Course, the same as given to serving Government employees. The decision comes in response to multiple representations submitted by retired officials seeking parity in membership access. Previously, under the draft rules, retired officers were to be classified alongside private individuals for the purposes of gaining membership. This distinction had drawn concern and prompted several appeals. With the LGs approval, retired Government employees will now be eligible for membership under the Government servants category — significantly reducing the cost and improving accessibility to the prestigious facility. Located in Sector 24, Dwarka, the DDAs Dwarka Golf Club (DWGC) is one of Indias longest golf courses, sprawling over 158 acres. It boasts an 18-hole championship course, a clubhouse, a 377-yard driving range, a six-hole chip and putt course for children and a swimming pool. The facility has been developed with modern amenities and also includes training infrastructure for athletes aiming to compete in Asian and Olympic Games events. The DWGC is built on a pay-and-play model, meaning players can use the facilities without purchasing full membership. However, the new regulation introduces structured tenure rights for three and five years, allowing players a more consistent and affordable access plan. Those opting to renew their playing rights after the initial term will receive substantial rebates — 25 per cent for the first renewal and 35 per cent for the second. A maximum of two extensions is allowed. In the event of the death of a playing rights holder, the rules also allow their spouse to inherit those rights upon payment of the applicable fee, even if they were not previously members. The revised Government category for playing rights will now include serving employees of Central and State Governments, Union Territories, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies and banks receiving government financial support. Additionally, individuals on deputation or Foreign Service who retain a lien on their Government posts will also be covered.
