PWD completes repair of 3,433 potholes across Capital

  • | Thursday | 26th June, 2025

nThe Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) on Tuesday completed the repair of 3,433  potholes across the national Capital † in a single day. The pothole repair drive began early Tuesday morning and continued till late evening, covering a massive 1,400 km stretch across main roads, internal lanes and vulnerable accident zones. Delhi was divided into three key zones †East, South and North, with simultaneous work carried out across all regions. A total of over 200 maintenance vans, fitted with advanced machinery and high-quality material, were deployed to ensure speedy and durable repairs. PWD officials confirmed that pothole data was gathered through citizen complaints, drone mapping and zonal surveys †a combination of people’s participation and tech-driven governance. Every repair was documented with geo-tagged and time-stamped photos, taken before and after the work †a measure introduced to ensure complete transparency and eliminate any scope of malpractice. The success of the operation depended on the large-scale deployment of over 1,000 personnel, including 70 assistant engineers, 150 junior engineers and hundreds of workers and supervisors. “This wasn’t just a pothole repair mission †it was a commitment to end the cycle of delays and excuses. Every pothole filled was a message that delivery is possible when the intent is honest,” said PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma. “This one-day campaign, seen as near impossible in the past, has now been accomplished with speed, quality, and transparency †reflecting a new working culture driven by accountability and delivery, consistent with Modi Ki Guarantee of efficient governance,” he added. The minister further added that in a rare show of public accountability, Delhi Government ministers and MLAs also took to the streets, monitoring the progress in their respective constituencies. Their presence ensured on-the-spot resolution of issues and strict adherence to quality standards. The PWD minister was seen personally inspecting sites, interacting with engineers and workers, and ensuring that no pothole remained untouched. His direct involvement sent a strong message †that infrastructure delivery is now a political priority, not a bureaucratic task. Beyond this one-day blitz, PWD is pursuing a broader vision. According to Verma, 150 km of new roads have already been completed, another 100 km is under progress, and the government targets 500 km of total road work by March next year. “This massive one-day pothole repair campaign stands as a symbol of administrative willpower. No delays, no excuses †just visible, verifiable work,” the minister added. With real-time monitoring, public participation, and clean execution, this effort is already being seen as a template for other cities,’ the minister added.
