Police has arrested at least 1100 people involved in drug trade: CM Gupta

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has informed that in just the first four months of 2025, Delhi Police has arrested over 1,100 individuals involved in drug trafficking. FIRs have been filed, large quantities of drugs have been seized, and many addicted individuals have been sent to rehabilitation centres. Highlighting the adverse effects of drug addiction in a State-level public awareness programme held at Yamuna Sports Complex on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The Chief Minister said drug abuse not only affects health but also breaks families and severely impacts societal foundations. She took part in an awareness campaign against narcotics and called upon the public to actively participate in a wide-reaching campaign against drug abuse. Speaking at the event, CM urged the youth to stay away from drugs and work towards realising a drug-free national capital as well as a drug-free country. She emphasised that while the government, police, and civil society are working in tandem, public participation is essential in this mission. The CM noted that the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India) given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become a mass movement across the country. Active guidance and strong administrative leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah inspires in furthering this campaign. She reitereated Delhi Governments commitment to achieving this national objective. The chief minister lauded the Delhi Police for destroying over 50,000 kilograms of narcotic substances including cocaine, charas and ganja and commended the cops for their efforts to spread awareness about drug menace in coordination with the State Government. She appreciated the presence of MP Manoj Tiwari, Cabinet Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh and MLAs Om Prakash Sharma, Sanjay Goyal and Anil Goyal and sought the support from the people in building a drug-free, aware, and empowered national Capital. She stated that the Prime Minister has laid out a national vision to make India drug-free by 2047, and Delhi government is resolute in carrying out every responsibility towards achieving this goal. She said, When India celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047, we must be able to present it as a healthy, empowered, and drug-free nation.
