Delhi Congress steps up anti-drug campaign across Capital, slams Government inaction

  • | Sunday | 29th June, 2025

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) organised anti-drug awareness campaigns across all 70 Assembly constituencies on Saturday under the banner Congress Ka Yudh – Nashe Aur Apradh Ke Virudh, led by DPCC president Devender Yadav. The campaign, which began on May 26 in Badli, saw thousands of Congress workers, youth and families of drug abuse victims participate. Highlighting the failures of both the current BJP-led government and the previous Aam Aadmi Party regime, Yadav said successive governments had turned Delhi into a hub of crime and addiction by failing to provide jobs and meaningful engagement for the youth. He said drug addiction among youth aged 18–40 has increased by 25 per cent annually, with 90 per cent of street children now affected. Yadav criticised the Rekha Gupta governments silence on worsening law and order, especially in unauthorised colonies and JJ clusters, despite spending `12,000 crore annually on enforcement. He reiterated the Congresss commitment to a drug-free and crime-free Delhi and noted the success of the Mega Job Fair held in partnership with the Indian Youth Congress as a proactive step toward employment generation. Meanwhile, former Congress MLA Sushila Jaikishan led a protest at Jalebi Chowk, Sultanpuri, with her sons Rahul and Varun Dhaka, drawing attention to the rising drug menace and its link to growing crimes such as snatching, molestation and murder. The protesters blamed lax policing and government apathy for the worsening crisis. The Congress campaign concluded with a collective pledge:Aao Milkar Kare Shapath, Dilli Ko Banaye Nasha Mukt—a call to action for a safer, drug-free capital.
