Delhi to adopt Gujarat-style advanced education model: Sood

  • | Sunday | 29th June, 2025

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on Saturday announced that an advanced education system featuring artificial intelligence, smart boards, and robotics, on the lines of Gujarat, will soon be implemented in government schools across the national capital. Sood made the statement while visiting Suman High School No. 6 in Udhna, Surat, as part of an educational tour aimed at studying successful models of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The school, run by the Surat Municipal Corporation, has integrated smart boards in classrooms and hosts an AI and Robotics Lab for students. During the visit, Sood observed ongoing classes using digital learning tools and interacted with students about the effectiveness of smart boards. He also inspected the AI and Robotics Lab where students demonstrated projects involving drones, 3D printers and security systems with advanced sensors. Impressed by the hands-on learning and technology-enabled environment, the minister said similar upgrades would be rolled out in Delhi. These initiatives will not only improve the quality of education in government schools but also give students practical exposure to future-ready technologies, he said. However, Sood also used the occasion to launch a scathing critique of the previous Aam Aadmi Party-led education model in Delhi. He referred to the so-called Delhi model as a failure, noting that even with all the resources available to a national capital, Delhis schools have only a few hundred smart boards. In contrast, Gujarat, which faces frequent natural disasters, has managed to install over one lakh smart classrooms, he said. The self-proclaimed Delhi model and its Education Minister—now jailed in a liquor scam—have failed to deliver meaningful change, Sood remarked. The visit was also attended by the District Education Officer of Surat, officials from the Municipal Primary Education Committee, and school administrators.
