CM Gupta instructs officials to identify land for biogas plants

  • | Monday | 30th June, 2025

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday instructed senior officials to identify suitable land near dairy colonies across Delhi for setting up biogas plants aimed at generating green energy and reducing Yamuna pollution. The directive came following her visit to Mathuras Kumar village, where she inaugurated a Waste-to-Wealth bio-CNG plant that converts cow dung into clean fuel and organic fertiliser. She said similar projects are being planned for Delhi and announced that two such plants will be launched in the capital soon. Biogas plants are not just about sustainable energy—they are directly linked to our efforts to clean the Yamuna, CM Gupta said, adding that she has asked officials to expedite land identification so the installation process can begin at the earliest. During her trip, the CM combined spiritual engagement with administrative focus. She offered prayers at the famous Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan and performed the sacred barefoot parikrama of Govardhan Hill, praying for the prosperity and well-being of Delhis citizens. The Chief Minister had embarked on her visit to Mathura on Saturday, accompanied by her family and party workers. While the trip was rooted in faith and devotion, it also included important administrative engagements. In the evening, she participated in puja at the Giriraj Maharaj Temple and undertook the Govardhan Parikrama barefoot, amidst the sound of drums and traditional instruments. Throughout the route, she interacted with saints, locals, and devotees, seeking blessings and sharing words of encouragement. She said I prayed to Giriraj Maharaj that Delhi continues progressing, and that its citizens remain healthy, safe, and prosperous, she said, adding that the blessings of Banke Bihari would guide Delhis development journey. Highlighting the environmental impact, she noted that over 12,000 dairies in Delhi produce thousands of tonnes of cow dung daily, much of which pollutes the Yamuna via open drains. Proper disposal through biogas conversion is key to both river rejuvenation and energy sustainability, she said. Back in Delhi on Sunday afternoon, she immediately followed up on the project with senior officers, urging quick identification of feasible sites. Lets act fast, she told them, so more biogas plants can be built to support our clean Delhi, clean Yamuna mission.
