elhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Tuesday said all of its personnel have undergone training for the new criminal laws and the city police have successfully operationalised them in the past year. More than 2.5 lakh FIRs have been registered under the new criminal laws that came into force this day last year, with over 62,000 chargesheets already filed, Arora said in his address at the 4th Commissionerate Day Ceremonial Parade at the New Police Lines in Kingsway Camp. The police commissioner said the force has intensified its drive against drugs and organised crime in 2024. More than 26,000 kg of drugs worth `9,200 crore were destroyed last year, seven criminals are being tried under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS Act), with property `4.75 crore seized, he added. Arora said six cases were registered under the MCOCA against individuals linked to organised drug cartels, and 4,900 kg of drugs have already been destroyed this year till June. Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena was the chief guest at the ceremonial event that commemorated the introduction of the commissionerate system in Delhi on July 1, 1978. In his address, LG Saxena lauded the Delhi Police for its consistent efforts in safeguarding the citys over two crore residents, especially since it also manages daily VIP movements. He praised the forces growing technological prowess and highlighted its role in combating cybercrime, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and human trafficking. Delhi Police has earned the distinction of being among the finest forces in the country. Its use of technology in crime prevention, public interface innovations such as Smart Police Booths and citizen-friendly zero FIR registrations are commendable, he said. He also highlighted the Best Marching Contingent title, which the Delhi Police has won 17 times, including this year, at the Republic Day Parade and the FICCI Smart Policing Jury Award for forensic innovation.
