Sirsa dismisses firing attempt at his life

  • | Thursday | 3rd July, 2025

Reports of a firing incident targeting Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa during his morning visit to West Delhis Khyala and Vishnu Garden areas sparked confusion on Wednesday, but were later dismissed by both the minister and the Delhi Police. The rumours began circulating on social media, suggesting that an unidentified person had opened fire at the minister while he was touring his constituency in the forenoon hours. The reports claimed that a cartridge had been found at the scene, fuelling speculation of an attempted attack. However, Delhi Police officials responded, saying there was no truth to the claims. When Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa was taking rounds in the Khyala area, a metal piece—which from a distance looked like an empty cartridge — was found on the street. On closer examination, it appears to be a part of a sewing machine, said Shristi Pandey, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West). Police have scanned the area, and any kind of firing or incident has been ruled out. A team of police personnel was rushed to the spot following the reports. After thoroughly inspecting the area and speaking with residents, officials confirmed there was no evidence of any gunfire or suspicious activity. Minister Sirsa also took to social media to clarify the situation. There is a rumour going around about a firing targeting me. Its completely false, he said, urging the public not to believe or spread unverified claims. Sirsa was reportedly conducting routine rounds in his constituency when the confusion arose. The object that sparked the panic was recovered by police and determined to have no connection with any firearm.
