Speaker set up panel to monitor Government departments

  • | Thursday | 3rd July, 2025

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has constituted the Department-Related Standing Committees (DRSCs) for the year 2025–26 for various departments of the Delhi government, including health, education, finance, transport, and others. While the all seven committees feature representation from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), all committee chairpersons belong to the BJP. These standing committees are tasked with scrutinising department-specific policies, examining annual reports, reviewing Demands for Grants (without proposing cut motions), analysing bills referred to them by the House or Speaker, and conducting inquiries into matters of public concern. The Standing Committee on Finance and Transport will be headed by BJP MLA Ashok Goel (Model Town). Other BJP members include Ajay Mahawar, Karnail Singh, Kartar Singh Tanwar, Pawan Sharma, and Pradyumn Rajput. AAP legislators Aaley Mohammad Iqbal, Jarnail Singh, Ravi Kant and Virendra Singh Kadian have also been appointed to the committee. BJP MLA Kailash Gahlot (Bijwasan) will lead the committee on administrative matters, covering vigilance, general administration, law and IT departments. Former Delhi education minister and AAP MLA Atishi is among the nine members of this panel. The Standing Committee on Education will be chaired by BJP MLA Umang Bajaj and will include five BJP MLAs and three AAP legislators. The Welfare Committee — dealing with social welfare, labour, food and supplies, employment, and home departments — will be chaired by BJP MLA Neeam Pahalwan (Najafgarh). Its members include BJP MLAs Deepak Chaudhary, Harish Khurana, Ravinder Negi, Sandeep Sehrawat, and Satish Upadhyay, as well as AAP MLAs Ajay Dutt, Amanatullah Khan, and Ram Singh Netaji. BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely will chair the committee on health, while the committee on development — covering rural and urban development, agriculture, revenue, land and building — will be headed by BJPs Raj Kumar Chauhan. The Standing Committee on Public Utilities and Civic Amenities, overseeing the PWD, Power, Delhi Jal Board, and Irrigation and Flood Control departments, will be chaired by BJP MLA Sandeep Sehrawat. Other BJP members include Gajendra Singh Yadav, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, Pawan Sharma, Pradyumn Singh Rajput, and Sanjay Goyal. AAP MLAs Anil Jha, Pravesh Ratn, and Punardeep Singh Sawhney are also part of this committee. As per Rule 244A of the Assemblys procedural framework, each committee can have a maximum of nine members, nominated by the Speaker. The constitution of these committees was formally notified in a bulletin issued by the Assembly Secretariat.
