Delhi Assembly Speaker constitutes 11 more legislative committees

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has announced the constitution of 11 new Committees, in addition to the 18 already constituted — bringing the total number to 29 Committees. The formation took place in phases: 11 Committees were constituted in the first phase, followed by 7 in the second. The latest set of 11 Committees includes the Committee on Women and Child Welfare, Committee on Welfare of Minorities and Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes. These Committees aim to further strengthen the institutional framework for addressing the concerns of marginalized and underrepresented communities. An additional six Committees are expected to be announced in due course. While announcing the constitution of the committees, Gupta stated that all political parties have been given due representation to ensure the principles of participatory and inclusive  democracy upheld. He hoped that these committees will achieve their desired goals by working for the betterment of citizens of Delhi. The 11 committees for financial year 2025-26 as follows Committee on Delegated Legislation led by AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha, Committee of Privileges led by BJP MLA Pradyumn Singh Rajput, Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes led by BJP MLA Kailash Gangwal, Committee on Papers Laid on the Table led by AAP MLA Gopal Rai, Committee on Women and Child Welfare led by BJP MLA Poonam Sharma, Committee on Welfare of Students and Youth led by BJP MLA Aahir Deepak Chaudharyy, Committee on Environment led by BJP MLA Anil Kumar Sharma, Committee on Ethics led by BJP MLA Shyam Sharma, Committee on Welfare of Minorities led by BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes led by BJP MLA Raj Karan Khatri and Committee on Issues Related to Unauthorised Colonies led by BJP MLA Kuldeep Solanki. Emphasising their significance, Gupta stated that committees are essential for legislative oversight, enabling continuous scrutiny of Government functioning beyond the limited time of House sessions. As legislative business grows in scale and complexity, committees ensure effective supervision of executive action, financial accountability and alignment of Government schemes with approved objectives.
