Taking potshots at (BJP, Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal said the BJP has failed to take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the AAP, if elected, will fulfil Modi’s dream of Swachh Bharat. “The BJP has turned Delhi into a garbage pile in the past 10 years and backstabbed the Prime Minister over Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.... make Delhi clean city in one year,” said Kejriwal who was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia along with other party leaders. Kejriwal said, “We’ll get the best technology available to clean Delhi and equip our safai karmacharis to help them shine Delhi. We will make the city dengue and chikungunya-free in three years. The civic body would undertake desilting drains in the city, within a year of its victory and closure of all landfill sites by 2019.” The manifesto also promises to simplify rules for building plans, like relaxing permissions for houses up to 500 metre. All certificates and licences will be issued online to ensure transparency in a bid to eliminate corruption, said Kejriwal while noting that the party will crackdown on mafias in parking, hoardings/advertisements and make the MCDs “profitable”. The manifesto talks about overhauling the MCD-run schools and hospitals. “The condition of MCD schools is very bad. We will revamp the schools in two years, appoint more teachers and send them to abroad for more advanced training,” said Kejriwal while adding that the dispensaries of civic bodies will be integrated with mohalla clinics and polyclinics and availability of free medicines to be ensured in their hospitals. The AAP also aggressively tries to woo sanitation workers by assuring them of regularilisation, timely monthly salaries, family health insurance cover, cashless card for medical expenses, subsidised food, safety gears and improved working conditions and a fixed deposit of Rs 50,000 to their girl child.
