more-in The Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all schools in the city to install air purifiers to ensure that students don’t face health hazards due to air pollution. A circular issued to all Principals in the city has directed them to “create social awareness on the adverse impact on public health due to indiscriminate burning of crackers for different festivities.” Health at risk The order read, “The ambient air quality of Delhi needs to be improved. In view of the gravity of harm to human health due to inferior ambient air quality, improvement by even a decimal of the air quality would go a long way in improving public health and the environment in Delhi. Thus, schools should take action to install air filters as per need,” Message to children The circular also instructed schools to take proper steps through co-curricular activities to encourage the young generation to co-operate towards improvement of air quality in the Capital. The schools have been asked to submit a compliance report within 15 days. Three-tier push The Delhi government had last year announced a three-tier air treatment system that includes setting up of wind purification units, mist fountains and virtual chimney at five major traffic intersections on trial basis to deal with rising air pollution. After Diwali last year, the Delhi government had taken an emergency measure to tackle the rising level of pollution by shutting schools for three days and banning all construction activities in the city for five days.
