New Delhi: Getting a bottle of water saved Renu's life, but not being able to save her mother will haunt her for the rest of her life. The sole survivor who escaped without injuries in the fire on Monday night said that her mother always wanted her to become a musician. "But now that she is gone, who will listen to me singing?" she cried.Narrating the incident, the BA second year student said that her mother, Usha, asked her to get a bottle of water for her. "I had just crossed the road to buy a bottle when I saw the fire. My life shattered in a single moment," she said.She said that she tried running back into her house, so that she could save her family members. "People held me back and didn't let me go in," she cried. "I would have preferred getting burnt, rather than being left alone."Meanwhile, locals said that the flames rose so fast that they could see it from a distance. "Had the fire tenders reached the spot slightly early, some of the victims could have been rescued," said Rajeev Kumar, a resident of the area.Jitender, who was severely injured in the fire and discharged on Tuesday afternoon, said that he came to Delhi for his cousin's marriage a week back. "Everybody was engrossed in the wedding preparation which was to be take place on Wednesday," he said.
