Police aim to train 12 lakh students

The Delhi Police aim to target 12 lakh students for their annual road safety programme this year, bringing two lakh more children into the fold compared to last year. “We aim to reach out to 15 lakh students and at least 1,200 schools in Delhi in future. Approximately 10 lakh students from 924 public and government schools participated in last year’s programme and competitions. “The objective is to train them young so that children can be moulded to obey traffic rules and act as road safety sentinels in the family,” said the officer. A one-week training for trainers programme for Traffic Police personnel from all circles is on at the moment.

Formal launch A senior Delhi Traffic Police officer said the wing, in association with private partnership, will organise the school road safety awareness campaign, spread over a period of six months, after its formal launch in August 2017. A one-week training for trainers programme for Traffic Police personnel from all circles is on at the moment. “The objective is to train them young so that children can be moulded to obey traffic rules and act as road safety sentinels in the family,” said the officer. Approximately 10 lakh students from 924 public and government schools participated in last year’s programme and competitions. “We aim to reach out to 15 lakh students and at least 1,200 schools in Delhi in future. Like last year, various competitions based on road safety will be conducted at various levels and a final competition will be held to adjudge overall winners,” said the officer.
