more-in Citing a recent court order quashing molestation charges against its MLA Prakash Jarwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said his case was the perfect example of how central agencies like the Delhi Police were being used to create an adverse public perception towards them. Addressing journalists at a press conference here, party leader Atishi Marlena said when Mr. Jarwal was arrested on July 15 and charged with Section 354 IPC (molestation) based on the complaint of a BJP worker, the police misused the provision, which was struck down by the court while hearing his bail plea. “In the process, it has caused considerable damage to the reputation of Mr. Jarwal and his family as the media screams headlines of the arrest but when the court gives an order in our favour, the police’s response is muted and the media coverage relegated,” said Ms. Marlena. She added that his case was not an isolated one. ‘Routine harassment’ “AAP MLAs have had to routinely face such harassment from the Delhi Police, on the directions of the BJP, but the courts have repeatedly given a clean chit in these cases. The party will not bend its knees before such an onslaught against its MLAs under any circumstances,” she added. The party was not going to succumb to such pressure tactics, and will always expose this conspiracy against our elected legislators which “is an obvious attempt to malign the party”, she further claimed.
