Supreme Court of India has made a landmark judgment scraping controversial 1,400-year-old religious practice triple talaq in Muslim community.
The subject was highly sensitive as religious faith was attached with it. The top court has also carefully constituted a unique panel of 5 judges representing 5 different faiths.
Judges’ comment:
(Consent)
Justices Kurien Joseph (Christian), Justice Rohington Nariman (Parsi) and UU Lalit (Hindu)

"Triple Talaq may be a permissible practice but it retrograde and unworthy. Since triple talaq is instant it is irrevocable and the marital tie gets broken. It is violative of Article 14, the right to equality."

(Differed)
Chief Justice JS Khehar (Sikh) and Justice Abdul Nazeer (Muslim)

“ While triple talaq "may be sinful", the court can`t interfere in personal laws which have the status of fundamental right under the constitution.P arliament should bring a law to end the practice.”

In the history of Indian judiciary, perhaps this is first time that such special panel has been formed to tackle the case which indicates the beauty of Indian Judiciary.
