more-in A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman inside his taxi at a secluded place near the Red Fort on Tuesday. The accused was arrested within hours after a case was registered based on the victim’s complaint, the police said on Wednesday. Railway station Chunnu Kumar, a resident of Shastri Park, was arrested for allegedly duping the victim on pretext of dropping her to the bus stand in his private cab from New Delhi railway station. The victim allegedly wanted to go to Ludhiana. According to the police, the victim reached New Delhi railway station from her brother’s house in Noida around 11 p.m. on Monday. Waiting room Her train to Ludhiana was scheduled for 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday and she decided to sit in the waiting room. Around 2 a.m., she exited the waiting room and saw the accused, who introduced himself as taxi driver. “He sat with her on the bench and lied to her saying that her train had been cancelled. As the woman started to walk towards the ticket counter, the accused took the ticket saying it would get cancelled only at 8 a.m. Then, he offered to drop her off at a bus stand so that she could travel to Ludhiana by bus,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Jatin Narwal. The accused allegedly took her to Jublee Park near the Red Fort and allegedly raped her before dropping her at Old Delhi railway station.
