Arvind Kejriwal approves seven sewage treatment plants in north Delhi

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today approved setting up of seven decentralised sewage treatment plants in north Delhi’s Burari area and the government is planning similar facilities for the entire city. According to the government, these seven DSTPs will cover sewer lines for 25 colonies in the area. The government has planned decentralized STPs in all Delhi colonies and institutions with a special focus on unauthorized areas, an official said. On September 5, Kejriwal had asked the DJB to come with a roadmap for decentralized STPs all over Delhi. The move came as Kejriwal, who is also the Chairman of the DJB, held a meeting with officials on setting up decentralised sewage treatment plants.

According to the government, these seven DSTPs will cover sewer lines for 25 colonies in the area. An official said that after these DSTPs are set up, Burari would become the first assembly constituency where all unauthorised colonies would have sewer lines. The chief minister has directed Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to come up with a plan for the entire city too. The move came as Kejriwal, who is also the Chairman of the DJB, held a meeting with officials on setting up decentralised sewage treatment plants. “The seven DSTPs would treat a total of 14.5-MLD sewage water, which would further be used for several purposes like water body recharge, irrigation etc,” the city government said in a statement. It also stated the chief minister also asked the officials in charge of setting up these DSPTs to start the work as soon as possible. The chief minister also asked them to come up with the proposal for DSTPs all over Delhi at the earliest. On September 5, Kejriwal had asked the DJB to come with a roadmap for decentralized STPs all over Delhi. The government said that these decentralized STPs would not only solve the crisis faced due to sewage but will also produce a huge amount of recycled water. The government has planned decentralized STPs in all Delhi colonies and institutions with a special focus on unauthorized areas, an official said.
