The resolution, recently passed by the governing body of Dyal Singh college, has witnessed stiff resistance from several quarters. A day after the Akal Takht and Shiromani Akali Dal registered their protest against the proposal to rename Delhi University’s Dyal Singh (Evening) college to Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya, Sikh radical group Dal Khalsa on Friday termed the move an attempt to polarise society. Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the attempt to rename the evening college by the college management head adds to long list of injustices that Sikhs have been facing. While Akali Dal has decided to raise the issue in the upcoming winter session of Parliament, the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, termed the move an attempt to destroy the historic importance of the institution. “Elements associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are playing the card of pseudo-nationalism to polarise society and it has become the order of the day under the current BJP-led government at the Centre,” he alleged.
