100 DMRC e-rickshaws for better last-mile connect

NEW DELHI: After Gurugram, Faridabad and Vaishali, Delhi Metro has for the first time introduced e-rickshaw facilities in Delhi as well. “On successful implementation of the services, DMRC will look to replicate them on similar format in other areas of Delhi NCR. A charging station for 100 vehicles has also been set up to ensure seamless service through the day,” the spokesperson said.These GPS-enabled e-rickshaws are specially designed with covered cabin and full front windscreen. DMRC, in association with a private firm, launched the services on Friday to serve stations in Dwarka Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal flagged off a fleet of 100 e-rickshaws called SmartE from Dwarka Sector 10 station to boost the last-mile connectivity around Dwarka sub-city, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said. DMRC, in association with a private firm, launched the services on Friday to serve stations in Dwarka Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal flagged off a fleet of 100 e-rickshaws called SmartE from Dwarka Sector 10 station to boost the last-mile connectivity around Dwarka sub-city, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said. “This eco-friendly initiative will enable the commuters to prefer non-polluting public transport modes over personal vehicles,” Baijal said after the ceremony.These vehicles will ply from eight stations — Dwarka, Dwarka Sector 14, Sector 13, Sector 12, Sector 11, Sector 10, Sector 9 and Sector 8 — from 6am to 11pm.“Initially, 100 SmartEs are being introduced that will gradually be increased to 200 in the coming weeks. A charging station for 100 vehicles has also been set up to ensure seamless service through the day,” the spokesperson said.These GPS-enabled e-rickshaws are specially designed with covered cabin and full front windscreen. The fares have a base price of Rs 10 for the first 2km and Rs5 for every subsequent km.“The commuters can also book vehicles through the SmartE app and pay digitally,” he said. They can also get more information about the services through a helpline number +918010400600 or by visiting www.getsmarte.in. “On successful implementation of the services, DMRC will look to replicate them on similar format in other areas of Delhi NCR. It is also working with SmartE to enable usage of metro smart cards for payment in these vehicles,” he said.Currently, about 500 SmartEs are operating from stations in Gurugram (HUDA City Centre, M G Road and Sikanderpur) and Faridabad (Escorts Mujesar, Neelam Chowk Ajronda and Bata Chowk), which are used by over 50,000 passengers daily, he added.
