317 arrested for cyber frauds in Faridabad this year, Rs 5.2 crore recovered

FARIDABAD: A total of 141 cybercrime cases have been registered in the city this year so far, according to the data released by the city police. An amount of Rs 5.2 crore has been recovered collectively from all the cases. The data stated that out of the registered cases, 97 have been resolved, leading to 317 arrests from January to November this year. Rakesh Kumar Arya, commissioner of police, Faridabad, said, "Most accused were arrested from Jharkhand, Bihar, Gujarat, Nuh, and Uttar Pradesh."Additionally, 460 mobile phones, 11 laptops, 2 tablets have been recovered in the time period. It has been observed that in most cybercrime cases, the fraudsters entice victims by ways of offering quick loans, increasing credit card limits, sending money abroad, work from home jobs, free gifts, lottery scams, vouchers, KYC fraud, and by impersonating bank officials. Another major way of cyber fraud is by sextortion. Explaining the split of cases registered across police stations in Faridabad, the commissioner said that 51 cybercrime cases were filed in NIT cyber station, out of which 36 were resolved, 146 accused were arrested and Rs 1.2 crore were recovered. A total of 82 mobile phones and a laptop were recovered.In the central cyber station, 48 cases were registered, out of which 36 were resolved, 87 arrests have been made and Rs 3.3 crore have been recovered. Cops seized 72 mobile phones, 5 laptops and a tablet from the accused overall.A total of 42 cases were registered in the Ballabhgarh cyber station, where 25 cases were resolved, 84 accused were arrested and Rs 67 lakh were recovered. The police seized 72 mobile phones, 5 laptops, 1 tablet, and 2 dongles from the accused. Moreover, under the relevant sections of the CrPC, 87 mobile phones were confiscated. The commissioner further suggested that people who fall prey to cyber fraud should immediately file a complaint on the cyber helpline number - 1930.
