Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old worker was run over by a train engine at the NTPC plant in Greater Noidas Jarcha early on Sunday morning.Police are probing if Vijendra Sharma, who was from Jewar, jumped in front of the engine and died by suicide. The engine driver, the cops said, did not notice him since it was quite dark when he was run over around 6am.The NTPC plant has railway tracks inside the compound that are used by goods trains to transport coal and heavy machinery.Sub-inspector Dinesh Malik, the local police outpost in-charge, said Sharma had been working on contract for NTPC for almost 15 years. Police, he said, received information about the mutilated body lying beside the tracks around 11am, more than 5 hours after the engine had mowed down Sharma.Initial investigation revealed that Vijendra Sharma was working on the tracks at an isolated area of the plant around 6am when the engine crushed him. The driver, probably, did not notice him because it was still dark then. Since the tracks are at a little distance from the main building, the body wasnt spotted for hours, he added. It was only around 10am that another worker passing by the tracks spotted the body and informed his seniors. A team was sent to the spot after we were informed. The body has been sent for an autopsy and the reports are awaited, Malik said.Police were yet to receive any written complaint till late on Sunday evening. It could be a case of suicide, but its too early to confirm anything. An investigation has been initiated. But, we are yet to receive any complaint from the mans family.
