Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta tests positive for coronavirus

Gurgaon: Haryana Assembly Speaker and MLA from Panchkula, Gian Chand Gupta, on Monday tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The development was confirmed by Haryana health minister Anil VIj. Gupta, 73, is the latest MLA to have tested positive for Covid-19 from Haryana. The speaker has tested positive two days before the monsoon session of the state assembly starts from August 26. As a result, Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa will be presiding over the House proceedings.

Gupta, 73, is the latest MLA to have tested positive for Covid-19 from Haryana. The speaker has tested positive two days before the monsoon session of the state assembly starts from August 26. As a result, Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa will be presiding over the House proceedings.

The Haryana assembly speaker’s political secretary and nephew Amit Gupta has also tested positive for the virus. It may be noted that all MLAs of the Haryana Assembly, including the speaker, chief minister, deputy chief minister, and ministers were directed to get their Covid-19 tests conducted. Only those with negative test results will be allowed to attend the session.

A COVID-19 negative certificate, not older than three days before the start of the session, will also be mandatory for anyone entering the Vidhan Sabha complex during the session, including officials. Meanwhile, At least 20 new coronavirus cases have been reported from Panchkula today including ACP Nupur Bishnoi. As of now, Haryana has nearly 9,000 active coronavirus cases and over 44,000 people have recovered in the state after getting infected. The state has so far reported slightly over 600 fatalities.
