A 24-year-old woman returning home after a late-night shift was kidnapped by three men who were in a cab she boarded at IFFCO Chowk around 3am last Monday, taken to a farm in Jhajjar 50km away and allegedly gang-raped.

Once the cab reached Jhajjar, five men – two more had joined the group later – locked her inside the cab and walked to a tree where they drank and bantered among themselves for a while before taking turns to rape her.

She was allegedly held captive and sexually assaulted till morning. They threw her out of the car somewhere in Farrukhnagar. A police team rescued her around 6.30am on Monday after she called for help.

None of the accused has been arrested yet. Police have some names to work with – Pankaj, Manoj, Vicky, which she remembered.

The woman, a west Delhi resident, works the 7pm-3am shift in a bar at a mall on MG Road and had been leaving at the same time and taking the same route back home, to Dwarka, every day for a month.

On Sunday night, she was tired and groggy when she reached IFFCO Chowk. She had a paratha and waited for a cab, and finding one that agreed to drop her to Dwarka Mod, got in.
“The cab stopped near me. Two people other than the driver were already inside it. I had to go to Dwarka Mod. The driver told me he was going in the same direction and agreed to drop me there,” she said. Once inside the cab, she fell asleep. Instead of heading for Delhi, the driver turned the car around in the other direction. “After some time, I woke up and spotted a board that said ‘Pataudi’. When I asked them where they were taking me, they threatened to kill me,” she said.

When they eventually parked the car and met the two other men who they had called there, the woman said one person remained by the car to keep a watch on her. She said she asked him where they were. “He said Patoda village (which is in Jhajjar),” she said.

“They were calling each other Pankaj, Manoj and Vicky……I’m not aware about the names of the others,” she said, adding they left her on the roadside in Farrukhnagar (the nearest town, which is around 10km away). They had given her back her cellphone, which she used to call police control room. Cops from Farrukhnagar police station reached the spot.
An FIR was filed at the women’s police station of Manesar under sections 376D (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. DCP (Manesar) Varun Singla said the police had recorded the woman’s statement. Once she records her statement before a magistrate, a decision will be taken on whether the probe is transferred to Jhajjar or handled by Gurugram police, Singla said.
