Acting against those not wearing masks in public places, Gurgaon police issued 739 challans at various locations in the city on Sunday. In all, police have issued nearly 1.6 lakh challans for not wearing masks in public places since the beginning of the pandemic. A total amount of around Rs 8 crore has been generated through these challans, police said.

“With an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the city, it is extremely important that people wear masks at all times in public places. We will continue the drive to issue challans against people who violate Covid norms,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.

He added that police commissioners have directed all officers to carry out strict checking in public places falling under their jurisdiction and take action against those violating norms.

Meanwhile, police launched a 24X7 helpline for Covid patients on Sunday. The helpline will help Covid patients reach hospitals in PCR vans which have been temporarily turned into ambulances.

Police also plan to connect the help desk with a group of doctors that can provide video or phone consultations to Covid patients.
The decision was taken after a meeting chaired by the police commissioner on Sunday.

Boken said anyone who registers for a hospital bed on the Covid website and is allotted a bed can call on 9999999953 and police will help them reach the hospital.

“Many people are not able to afford ambulance charges right now. The PCR vans will be able to help such patients. We have stationed them across different locations in the city so that they can reach patients at the earliest,” said Boken.

The service is only for those patients who don’t need oxygen in the ambulance and just need to be transported to hospital, said Boken. He added that 20 PCR vans will be turned into ambulances for this purpose. Besides this, if any person is having trouble in reaching the hospital, they call the helpline for help.
