Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday that nine members of Haryana`s women`s hockey team representing the country in the Olympics will be given a prize of Rs 50 lakh each.

The Chief Minister said, I congratulate the Indian team for their commendable performance in the Tokyo Olympics.

The Indian team lost 3-4 to Great Britain on Friday in a tough match for the bronze medal play-off. The Indian team finished fourth.

For India, this can be called the best performance so far in the Olympics. The world number 9 Indian team, putting an end to all the speculations, defeated world number 2 Australia and reached the semi-finals of the Olympics for the first time. However, they lost in the semi-finals.

This was India`s third Olympics. She qualified for the Rio Olympics (2016), 36 years after Moscow (1980). India finished fourth in the final but only six teams competed in the Olympics that year due to a global boycott.
