Gurgaon: The health department on Thursday directed all hospitals in the city, which have up to 50 beds, to submit medicolegal reports (MLR) on the MedLEaPR portal in 24 hours. Officials said hospitals will no longer issue physical MLRs and the reports that were submitted on the portal will be freezed in seven days so that it cannot be altered. The move came after the Punjab and Haryana high court in 2021 directed the state government to fortify the medicolegal system. The direction had come when the court was hearing a petition where a trial court had ordered to release accused petitioners on bail, who were arrested with psychotropic substances, as the forensic report was not submitted.A meeting of all representatives of private and government hospitals was held on Thursday in the city to discuss the same. We will train doctors to ensure that they fill the online forms and submit it on the portal. In case the portal is not functioning then a computer-generated report is to be issued immediately and then uploaded on the portal at the earliest but not later than 24 hours in any case. Also, X-rays wherever required should be done within 24 hours of admission of the patient. Reporting of X-rays and other investigations such as CT head etc. if done shall be reported within 48 hours. However, in case any sample has been sent for chemical examination then the final opinion shall be provided within 72 hours of receipt of reports of such samples. It is very crucial to freeze the report within seven days after filing so that it can not be altered in future, said chief medical officer Dr Virender Yadav.A medicolegal case (MLC) is a medical case with legal implications.
