Cops chase truck on KMP, rescue 28 cows

GURGAON: A police team chased a vehicle for an hour on the KMP Expressway and rescued 28 cows on Tuesday. The cows, police said, were being transported illegally to Nuh.According to police, the cow protection task force received information that a truck carrying cows illegally was going to Nuh through the KMP Expressway, where a checkpoint was set up.Around 3.30am on Tuesday, when the truck driver accelerated despite being stopped, police with a team of Gau Rakshaks chased the truck that jumped the road divider and moved in the wrong direction, endangering others safety. After an hour-long chase, police arrested the truck driver, identified as Nafeesh (28) from Nuh, and rescued 28 cows from the truck. Two cows had died as they were cramped inside the truck, cops said.Police spokesperson Subhash Boken said the cows were shifted to a cow shelter in Manesar, and a case was registered under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act at Bilaspur police station.Shailendra, a gau rakshak who accompanied the police team, said an SUV without numberplates was escorting the truck. The SUV was moving a few kilometres ahead of the truck to check whether the route was clear.
