2 steal bikes, use them to snatch phones & chains

Gurgaon: Two men were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in several incidents of snatching and vehicle lifting. Cops said the duo were drug addicts who stole two-wheelers and used them to snatch phones and gold chains. They then dumped vehicles once they run out of fuel, a police officer said.The accused have been identified as Sandeep, a resident of Gurgaon, and Suraj, originally from Bihars Bhagalpur, both 23 years old.They were recently released from jail and returned to crime, cops said. Both the accused were arrested fromHero Honda Chowk on Friday. POlice seized two bikes, two scooters, and two stolen mobile phones from the accused.The arrests come after a 30-year-old man filed a complaint with police that two men on a bike snatched his Android smartphone near Tesla Flats in Sector 37C on November 3. An FIR was lodged under sections 379A (snatching) and 379 (theft) of the IPC at Sector 10A police station.Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, ACP (crime) Varun Dahiya said, The accused would primarily operate at night. They used to specifically target citizens travelling in and around Kadipur near Sector 10. They first stole bikes and scooters and proceeded to snatch phones or chains. After the fuel in the stolen vehicle ran out, they abandoned it.The accused revealed that they were addicted to drugs and would use stolen vehicles and dump them to evade cops. They used to sell the snatched mobile phones for Rs 1,000-Rs 1,500, which they would spend on buying drugs.Cops said Sandeep has nine cases of theft registered against him, while Suraj has been booked in one case of theft. Moreover, Sandeep was recently released from jail on bail but failed to return. One of the robbers was later caught by the police during a vehicle check.Mohali carjacking case: 6-day police remand for three arrested accused, snatched car recoverThe Mohali police have successfully solved a carjacking case within 7 hours of the crime. Three individuals have been arrested and sent to police remand for six days. The stolen car, as well as the car used in the armed snatching, were recovered along with weapons. The accused have been identified as residents of Zirakpur. The police party led by Phase-11 SHO Inspector Naveenpal Singh managed to connect the chain of evidence, leading to the arrest of the suspects. The police will further investigate the accused to uncover any other similar crimes.
