10 vending zones, 5k stalls to come up in IMT sectors

Gurgaon: The Manesar municipal corporation (MCM) identified 10 street vending zones in the IMT sectors and wrote to the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) seeking permission to set up the vending zones. Officials said 5,000 vendors would be given stalls. A committee headed by joint commissioner Dinesh Kumar has been formed to identify the street vendors in Manesar and allocate them street vendingsites.MCM commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg recently held a meeting where he announced the allocation of sites to street vendors and the provision of permanent shelters. However, he added that the street vendors should not encroach upon the roads, green belts, etc. till MCM allocates these sites. Street vendors also raised the concern of people taking bribes to allow the street vendors to run in the MCM area, for which the MCM commissioner directed the officials to lodge police complaints against such people.The street vendors will be allocated sites within a 500-metre radius of their previous site of operations so that their business does not suffer. The street vendor will have to give an annual fee of Rs 500 and monthly charges of Rs 500 to MCM for setting up their carts in the designated vending zones," said city project officer Mahender Kumar.Street vending zones will be made, as per the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. It will give livelihood to the street vendors besides giving them an organised area to work. The street vending zones will have facilities for toilets, drinking water, and parking.The city project officer said in the meeting that the street vendors can avail of the working capital loan of Rs 10,000 with a tenure of one year under the PM Svanidhi scheme.
