GURGAON: Schools in the city were asked to restart offline mode of classes for students in pre-primary and primary standards from Tuesday. They were previously instructed to conduct classes online in view of the degrading air quality on November 6. Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav on Monday said that the air quality, which had reached severe levels last week, is now improving and hence there is no point interrupting studies at schools anymore. The district administration had decided to suspend physical classes for primary and pre-primary children studying in nursery to class 5 till further orders based on the recommendations of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and the Pollution Control Board. We had asked them to go online to ensure there was a minimum disruption in imparting education, said Yadav. We are now withdrawing the orders and regular classes can be conducted as before in both government and private schools, the DC added.According to Yadav, the decision was taken after regular monitoring of air quality in the city. The showers last week cleared the sky and AQI had improved to moderate from severe. The AQI on Monday deteriorated again to very poor with the bursting of crackers on Diwali. The elementary education officer of the city Saroj Dahiya said, Teachers were using the smart boards at schools and the tablets provided to them from the department of education to conduct online classes for kids sitting at home. Though we were not short of infrastructure, we welcome the decision to conduct offline classes. Primary children need personalised attention from teachers and that is possible only at a physical class. Kids also need to indulge in physical activities, the opportunity of which is lost in the online system.Earlier on Saturday, the administration had also revoked the decision to close all schools – irrespective of classes – from November 15. Shifting to online mode and closing of schools altogether had left both parents and teachers concerned. For parents, it had become difficult to leave kids alone at home while they were at work. On the other hand, schools had a hard time finishing their syllabus as the winter vacations are approaching and soon after that the final exams are scheduled. We also published the following articles recentlyGurugram Schools Closed: Classes Up to 5 Suspended Due to Declining Air QualityThe Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram has announced the discontinuation of physical classes up to class 5 due to the deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city.
