GURGAON: The wait for piped water supply may get over soon for thousands of families living in residential societies in Gwalpahari area, as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to construct a boosting station. If everything goes as planned, the canal water supply will be ready by 2025.In the absence of piped water, residents living in highrise societies along with villages are either dependent on borewells or water tankers to meet their daily demand.GMDA officials said that they have floated the tender for the construction of a boosting station at Gwalpahari, which will include construction of underground tank of 4,000 KL capacity, sump well, pump house at the cost of Rs 3.9 crore. The residential area will get the canal water and the work will take around 18 months to complete, the official said. The project to construct a boosting station to ensure piped water supply in Gwalpahari area has been in the making since 2019 and even the work was allotted to the agency in 2020. However, it could not be executed due to pending litigation over land acquisition. Now the matter has been resolved and we have floated the tender for the construction of a boosting station in the area. The tendering process is expected to complete within two months, the official said.In addition to this, the GMDA is also planning to take up 2,100 metres of remaining 450 mm pipeline work in the area from HSVP, which will be connected to the proposed boosting station in Gwalpahari. We have been awaiting final closure of the contract between the HSVP and the contractual agency. So that we can take up the matter forward and start the process for laying the remaining pipeline work that has been pending for years and to ensure piped water supply in the area, the official added.According to the GMDA, the water supply to this area will be fed from Chandu Budhera water treatment plant that will supply to the boosting station in sector 72, from there the water will be boosted to Gwalpahari boosting station to further distribute among residential areas. At present, there are half a dozen societies in the area including Valley View Estate, Paras Quartier, Ireo Gurgaon Hills, Krish Provence, ASF Insignia, Vatsal Valley which are either fully occupied or in the process of offering possession, in addition to hotel and village population. As per the GMDAs Infrastructure Development Plan prepared by the IIT Roorkee, the projected population of the Gwalpahari area will be 43,516 by 2031 and 51,707 by 2041.The residents have welcomed the development and said that it has been long pending demand. Ira Sharma, RWA member of Valley View Estate said that they have been raising the matter with the concerned authorities repeatedly over the years. I have been living here for the last 14 years and lack of piped water supply is a major concern for 5000 people living in the society.
