Clear garbage mounds from key roads, MCG officials told

GURGAON: MCG has decided to appoint an official who will be responsible for each arterial road and other sites where garbage dumping is rampant. MCG commissioner PC Meena in a meeting held on Tuesday directed officials to ensure that garbage is lifted from main roads and vulnerable points regularly.The commissioner also directed the joint commissioners to ensure that they utilise the manpower and machinery provided for their respective zones.Officials have been told to provide additional manpower and machinery so that there is no impact of the ongoing strike by on-roll sanitation workers.One official in-charge will be appointed for each garbage vulnerable point and the arterial roads where trash is being dumped on a regular basis. An earthmover will be made available at these points to lift garbage. Moreover, the on-roll sanitation workers, who dont let the other staff perform their duties, will face FIR and police action, the MCG chief said.Following the meeting, the joint commissioners visited the areas under their jurisdictions with sanitation staff and gave directions to the workers on garbage lifting. The areas covered include Atul Kataria Chowk, Wazirabad, Chakkarpur, Badshapur, Old Railway Road, among others, where the cleanliness drive took place in presence of the joint commissioners. Officials also informed the MCG chief that residents have raised concern over the frequent strikes by the on-roll sanitation workers. The safai workers on strike demand reinstating 3,480 contractual workers outsourced by MCG through private firms. The civic body, however, now gave the contract of sanitation to six private firms. The central government is questioning why farm fires have not been controlled despite the significant funding. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann are being asked to explain where the money has gone. Opposition parties are also criticizing AAP leaders for failing to use alternative methods such as the Pusa bio-decomposer. Farmers claim a shortage of machinery and resort to burning stubble.Noida: Security officer of private firm shot at by co-worker near metro stationA security officer was shot by a driver of the same company near a metro station in Noida. The victim was taken to the hospital and is now recovering. Police have formed two teams to find the suspect. The incident was reported by a police officer who found the victim unconscious. The victim identified the accused as Kapil Sharma, a driver at the company. The motive for the shooting is still unclear and a case has been registered under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
