GURGAON: The Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test (HTET) saw 17%drop in applications this year compared to last year. A total of 2,51,831 applications have been received in the state, which is 53,886 less than last years 3,05,717 applications, officials said. Scheduled for December 2 and 3, the application window for HTET closed on Saturday. The HTET is compulsory for the candidates applying for the posts of Primary Teacher (PRT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) in government schools. The Board of School Education in Haryana (BSEH) said the decreasing number of applications may be attributed to no fresh announcement of posts of teachers in the state this year.Out of 2.52 lakh applications, 1.21 lakh are for the post of TGTs or the Level 2 teachers posts. The number of applications for PRT (Level-1) and PGT (Level-3) are 54,106 and 76,265 respectively.BSEH had received a record number of applications for all three levels of HTET in 2022. At that time, the state government had announced that it would fill posts in the government schools across the state. The announcement of vacancies encouraged the candidates to appear in HTET last year hence we received the record applications. For the entire 2022 and 2023, several teachers recruitment exams took place but we still have vacant posts. The applicants are waiting to be hired. This might have discouraged the candidates from applying this year, said BSEH chairman VP Yadav. Shivani Dangi, a candidate, told TOI, Teachers who had already cleared HTET in 2020 are still waiting for their recruitment and posting. There are vacancies in the department but multifold candidates are fraying too. The department has failed to recruit via direct process. We have no scope, hence we dont see a point in applying. An official from the department said that the Centre and state government will go to polls next year, when the recruitment of teachers will begin. Further, the application scrutiny is also getting stricter this time as candidates have been caught filing multiple forms earlier. We also published the following articles recentlyHTET 2023 registration last date extended till tomorrow, apply at bseh.org.inThe registration deadline for the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) 2023 has been extended until November 11, 2023.
