Officials at work? CM flying squad raids MCM office, checks records

GURGAON: A team of the CMs flying squad raided the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) office on Thursday morning, seeking records of the engineering wing and attendance data of officers and other staffers. The inspection started at 10am and concluded around 11.30am.According to sources, while MCM commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg was present at the office, a majority of senior officials of the administration were not there at the time.Sources said as soon as news of the team visiting the office spread, the employees returned to their seats and some went to check the attendance registers.We have sought various records of work besides attendance of the MCM officers and staff. The record will now be scrutinised and probed after which we will be able to divulge information about the record sought, said an official of the CM flying squad.However, an MCM official who wished to remain anonymous told TOI, The CM flying squad visited our office at 10 am . They only checked the attendance registers and sought that records from the establishment branch. After taking our attendance record, they then went to the office on the ground floor.This is not the first time that the CM flying squad has conducted a raid at the MCM office. On November 10 last year, a joint team of the CM flying squad and the State Vigilance Bureau (SVB) conducted a raid at the MCM office. The state vigilance department had initiated an inquiry of all the works executed and payment made to private agencies since the inception of the civic body in December, 2020. The appointment of both serving and retired officers aims to strengthen the vigilance division and combat corrupt practices.Make offices disabled-friendly, depute staff at ground floor to provide serviceThe Chief Commissioner of Disabilities in India has stated that all government offices across the country must provide services on the ground floor to disabled individuals, if the offices are not disabled-friendly. This requirement also applies to public services such as passport and visa services and customer service centers. The Court of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has sent these recommendations to ministries and state governments for compliance. This decision was made in response to a disability rights activists experience of having to be carried to a second-floor office for her marriage registration.
