Gurgaon: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for dense fog on Wednesday in the city and other parts of south Haryana. Dense fog will be mainly present in the late night and early morning hours of the day, IMD said in its advisory. On Tuesday, residents woke up to overcast skies with drizzle at some places. The citys maximum temperature dropped to 21.7 degrees Celsius from 25.1 degrees the day before. It was two degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year. No active western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India for the rest of the week. A gradual fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature is very likely over many parts of northwest India after the next two days, said an IMD official.Severe winter is likely to start setting in from December 15 onwards, as northwesterly winds are likely to bring cold air from the Himalayan region, the official added. In its fog advisory, apart from the risk of travelling in low visibility, IMD has also cited some health issues arising due to long exposure to fog.
