Workers on strike getting salary? MCG starts probe

GURGAON: MCG has initiated a probe into allegations that several sanitation staffers have been drawing salaries despite not attending work. The move comes after two sanitation inspectors were transferred out of the civic body for allegedly helping such workers register their attendance while they were engaged in a protest and skipped work for days. We are in the process of identifying these sanitation workers and have initiated a probe to find out how many of them have been registering attendance without working for the corporation. Two sanitary inspectors were found helping the workers. So, the government transferred them. Disciplinary action will be taken employees who are found involved, an MCG statement said.Officials said the daily attendance register was being allegedly taken to a site where sanitation workers had been protesting over multiple issues. Workers who have registered unauthorised attendance will lose their salaries. But, we need to identify them first, an official said.In order to streamline the collection of waste and monitor the daily work, MCG has appointed eight retired sanitation officers. Moreover, it has also decided to recruit 48 ex-servicemen for the supervision of the sanitation work.A total of 12 teams of these retired officers and ex-servicemen will be constituted to ensure that solid, horticulture and concrete waste is lifted from the city every day.
