Footpaths, slip roads & signage: Revamp at 18 more junctions soon

Gurgaon: The GMDA is planning to revamp 18 major junctions to tackle traffic congestion, provide a safe pedestrian movemnet and improve overall mobility in the city.As part of the project, civil work will be carried out on the junctions, such as slip lanes, walkways, speed calming and road safety measures. Some key intersections where work will be done include, Good Earth Chowk, Arcadia Chowk, Unitech Chowk, IFFCO Metro Station Intersection, South City 1 near Lemon Tree, Tulip Chowk and Maharana Pratap Chowk among others.GMDA officials said the detailed project report report is being prepared and they will soon float the tender.We have identified and taken up 18 major junctions for redesigning. This will help in makingpedestrian movement convenient, decongest the area and improve overall traffic, a senior GMDA official said.The metropolitan authority has already been undertaking major junction improvement work at Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk and Kanhai Chowk. The first two are likely to be over by March next year while work on Kanhai will be over by the next month.Meanwhile, work on revamp of 80 intersections and T-points is also underway in the second phase of another project wherein minor improvements are being done at intersections in the city.The authority has installed road safety equipment such as zebra crossings, footpaths, slip roads and sign boards at various junctions. Around 40 junctions were revamped in the first phase of the project and 60% of the work in second phase is done, officials said.They said they are hoping to complete it fully within the next two months.In the first phase, we have worked on 40 junctions and 80 more were taken up in the second phase of the project. Most of the civil work has been completed, road safety furniture is now being installed. The work is likely to be completed within two months, the official said.The revamp of these 80 intersections will cost the GMDA around Rs 2.4 crore and will include reflective road studs, solar cat eye, advance direction signs, metal delineator, bollards, median markers, hazard markers, tree reflectors, zebra crossing along with maintenance of footpaths, and realignment of kerbs are being carried out.We also published the following articles recentlyCracks on IFFCO Chowk U-turn flyover; NHAI says will rebuild expansion jointsCracks on the U-turn flyover at IFFCO Chowk have raised safety concerns among commuters. This comes as the NHAI has developed three flyovers at IFFCO Chowk to decongest the busy junction.Traffic diversion on ITI Road for pipeline workA section of ITI Road will be closed for two weeks due to water pipeline work. The PMC will introduce route diversions to minimize commuter hardship. Traffic police will deploy additional manpower for smooth traffic flow on alternate roads. Authorities should install signboards at the work site.
