Gurgaon: A man on the run from police for 20 years after allegedly killing his wife in Faridabad and later jumping bail has been arrested in Jalandhar. Cops said the accused thrashed his wife to death with a stick in 1999 after he suspected her of having an extramarital affair.Triloknath (55) changed his name to Vijay, adopted a false identity, and was working as a painter in Jalandhar, according to police.In 1999, Trilok was living with his wife Sunita in Faridabads Sector 55. He worked as a manager with an automotive company. Cops said Trilok suspected that his wife Sunita was having an affair and thrashed her brutally with a stick on the head and body at their home in Faridabads Sector 55. During the altercation, Sunita managed to escape him and fled outside to the road. She tripped and fell, sustaining further head injuries, to which she succumbed.Trilok was soon arrested. He was charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and awarded five years of imprisonment in 2001. After serving a jail term of over two years, Trilok applied for a bail in the Punjab and Haryana high court in 2003. His bail plea was accepted.The court directed him to mark his attendance at the local police station from time to time and appear for court hearings. But he fled after being released. When he failed to report to cops, the court issued an arrest warrant against him.Faridabad police kept searching for him for 20 years at various locations, including Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, his hometown. They received a tip-off that he was in Punjab about 25 days ago.Mahendra Singh, the officer in charge of the Faridabad Sector 30 crime branch, said, We were sending out teams to Gorakhpur, where the accused was originally from, along with other places we suspected he could be at. We got to know of his whereabouts around a month ago and planned raids. He did not have any family in Jalandhar but was living alone under a false identity, working as a painter.
