Most rapists are kins of victims: Governor Jagdish Mukhi

SILCHAR: Governor Jagdish Mukhi , who is on a three-day visit to Barak Valley , said he is in favour of capital punishment for rapists. Speaking on the wave of crimes against women sweeping the country, Mukhi said most rapists are being seen to be relatives of the victims. "I have come to understand that 90% rapists in different parts of the country are kins of the victims. During his visit to the 154-year-old school, the governor found that a single toilet has been catering to the needs of 900 students, including girl students of the co-educational higher secondary section. "This is against the spirit of Swach Bharat Abhiyan, for which the government, NGOs and people have joined hands.

This figure is an eye-opener in the situation. Rapists and molesters deserve capital punishment," the governor said while interacting with teachers and students of Cachar College here during the day.Mukhi also asked deputy commissioner (Cachar) S Lakshmanan to construct a toilet for the girl students of the government high school here within the next 10 days. During his visit to the 154-year-old school, the governor found that a single toilet has been catering to the needs of 900 students, including girl students of the co-educational higher secondary section."This is against the spirit of Swach Bharat Abhiyan, for which the government, NGOs and people have joined hands. I want to see a separate toilet with water facilities for girl students of the school within next 10 days," said the governor.Paying a visit to the civil hospital here, Mukhi expressed his displeasure over the condition of service offered to patients. He lambasted the authorities for the pathetic conditions of toilets in the government hospital, which was also without water during his visit.The governor informed that all government departments have been asked not to make appointments to any post on ad-hoc basis from now onwards.The governor will visit Karimganj and Hailakandi on Friday and Saturday respectively.
