Govt aid for pregnant women in tea gardens

GUWAHATI: The state government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 12,000 each to around 47,000 pregnant tea garden workers every year for nutritional purpose. Sonowal said the smart phones would enable line sardars to establish contact with authorities concerned to address any emergency situation. He also proposed to set up a new department to look after plantation and commercial viability of tea, rubber and bamboo in the state.The CM has directed the tea tribes' welfare department to provide smart phones to line sardars in tea gardens so that they can use them as as a multi-purpose device. The state government would also set up one 100 high schools in tea garden areas.Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal , while reviewing the implementation of programmes for the welfare of tea tribes at his office on Friday evening, directed the departments concerned to expedite execution of the initiative. The CM also asked the education department to expeditiously transfer Rs 600 each to girl students aged between 12 and 20 years for procurement of sanitary napkins as announced in the state budget.
