NRC: Date extended for filing application seeking to know reason for exclusion

The printed forms for seeking reasons for non-inclusion, for filing claims and objections are ready with every NSK but we don’t want to distribute it now. There will also be provision to submit objection against any ineligible entry in final draft NRC while corrections can also be made in any errors in spellings of names, age, addresses details etc. There are reports of some NSKs giving out the forms earlier in the day but stopped it after few hours.The NRC website has announced the change of date. We will have to wait for the modalities prepared by home ministry and there might by changes in the format. The announcement adds that the process of filing claims, objections and seeking correction will start from August 30 and end on September 28.“The district headquarters received the information from NRC coordinator’s office about the change of the date for seeking reason for non-inclusion on Sunday but no reasons for the date change were cited.

GUWAHATI: For the 40 lakh people, who did not make it to the final draft published on July 30, the filing applications for knowing the reasons for non-inclusion that was scheduled from Tuesday has been postponed to August 10.But, after the Supreme Court’s stricture to the state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela on Tuesday, no one wants to say why the date has been postponed. Hajela did not respond to calls made to him. Several deputy commissioners and other statutory authorities at the district level of the updating process only confirmed that the date has been postponed to August 10 but refused to speak further on the matter.Several lakh of the 40 lakh people turned before Local Registrars of Citizen Registration (LRCR) up at designated NRC seva kendras (NSK) across the state to collect their forms for seeking the reasons of non-inclusion in the draft. There are reports of some NSKs giving out the forms earlier in the day but stopped it after few hours.The NRC website has announced the change of date. Only after the approval of the Supreme Court, we will have the clear idea,” a source said.The source added, “Once the people submit the applications seeking the reason for rejection in the draft NRC, we have to reply to them individually in what is called LoI (Letter of Information). The LOI will also inform the time schedule and place for submission of the claim.It is after getting the reasons for exclusion, an individual would be able to submit claim for inclusion of their names in the final NRC. There will also be provision to submit objection against any ineligible entry in final draft NRC while corrections can also be made in any errors in spellings of names, age, addresses details etc.
