Clean & Green Village Mission launched in Tinsukia's Torajan

GUWAHATI: 'Forest Man of India' Jadav Payeng on Monday launched the 'Clean and Green Village' Mission, an initiative of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal , at Torajan in upper Assam's Tinsukia district . Local villagers took part in the programme with the promise of carrying forward the chief minister's vision of 'Clean and Green Village'. Dibrugarh MP Rameswar Teli, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Kishan, Tinsukia deputy commissioner Oinam Charankumar Singh and other senior officials of the district were also present on the occasion. Torajan is one of 33 villages from 33 respective districts of the state where the mission will be carried out with the objective of making Assam one of the cleanest states of India.The inaugural event at Torajan was organised under the MyGov Assam initiative in association with the public health engineering (PHE) department, the district administration and sports and youth affairs departments.Reiterating his appeal to the public to take up responsibility for protection of forests and the environment, environmental activist Padma Shri Jadav Payeng said a plastic-free environment is essential for the human race to sustain.Tree saplings and sports items were distributed by the forest and sports and youth affairs departments on the occasion.
