'Strict action to be taken against those flouting model code'

Silchar: Strict action will be taken against any candidate found violating the model code of conduct that has kicked in ahead of the panchayat polls, Hailakandi DC Adil Khan said on Wednesday.
The amount of money being spent by contesting candidates will be strictly monitored, he added.
With the announcement of polls being made on Monday, the model code of conduct came into force with immediate effect.The election notice, as per the Assam Panchayat (Constitution) Rules, will be issued in Hailakandi on Friday.
The district has 626 polling stations and 3,87,132 voters, of whom 2,13,309 are male and 1,73,823 female.
He also asked candidates, political leaders and public representatives to cooperate with the administration.Hailakandi SP Mohneesh Mishra appealed to the media for cooperation to ensure that the polls are held in a free and fair manner.
