Location survey of new Brahmaputra bridge on anvil

GUWAHATI: The final location survey of a new railway bridge over the Brahmaputra river connecting British-era terminal Silghat on the southern bank in Nagoan district to Tezpur on the north bank is on the anvil.“The survey for construction of the new bridge is nearing completion. NF Railway CPRO Pranav Jyoti Sharma said the train will leave Silghat at 12.30 pm every Tuesday to reach Kolkata at 12.50 pm next day. On its return journey, the train will leave from Kolkata at 9.05 am on Monday to reach Silghat at 9.55 am on Tuesday.The train will have stoppages at Jakhalabandha, Amoni, Nowgong, Senchoa, Chaparmukh, Jagiroad, Guwahati, Kamakhya, Goalpara Town, New Bongaigaon, Fakiragram, New Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Rampurhat, Bolpur and Barddhaman during its journey on both ways. The train will have one AC 2 tier, four AC 3 tier, eight sleeper class and four general second class coaches.In his speech, Gohain said a Delhi-bound train and a south bound train will also be considered for introduction from Silghat soon.He announced an award of Rs 2 lakh for the division for its excellent work in readying facilities like watering of trains in record time. The train is expected to be greatly beneficial for improving trade and commerce of middle Assam areas apart from improving communication with the rest of the country.Tourists travelling to visit Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary would also to be benefited as the train will have stoppages at Amoni and Jakhalabandha.Regular service of the train will start from Kolkata on January 7 and from Silghat on January 8.

Once it is done, it can be considered for inclusion in the budget,” said minister of state (MoS) for railways Rajen Gohain, after flagging off of a new train from Silghat to Kolkata, on Tuesday.He added that the introduction of this new train is another step towards transformation through transportation announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The new train consists of 19 new state-of-the-art LHB coaches having modern amenities and facilities for passengers.
