OUR BUREAU GUWAHATI/DIMORIA: The mighty Brahmaputra River has lashed out acute threatening to the city with a rapid increase in the water level. As per a Water Resource Department source, an hourly 4.5 cm increase in the water level is measured. As of the 5 pm reading on Monday evening, the water level was at 50.93 meters and rapidly raising. The danger level is at 49. 68 meters and has been on the rising trend since Saturday. The entire Chunsali ghat is submerged in the river water along with the Uzan Bazaar fish market, the Monasha Goli at Bharalumukh, a part of Bhootnath cemetery, Pandu station colony, Pandu Puroni Bazaar, Temple ghat, Number 4 colony, a part of Garigaon, and the Chandrapur-Morigaon path which is overflowing with Brahmaputra water. A char near Dharapur has almost a thousand cows trapped. In Sonapur, the Digaru and Kolong rivers are also flowing above the danger level. The Kasutoli and Digarupar areas in Sonapur are flooded with water from the Digaru, while the Borghuli, Borpak, Kenoutpara, and Beltol areas are submerged in the waters of Kolong. More than 200 families in the area are suffering extreme losses while hectors of agricultural land have been ruined.
