Guwahati Municipal Corporation GMC Collected Rs 284180 Fine For Littering

STAFF REPORTERGUWAHATI: A GMC enforcement team amassed fine of Rs 2,84,180 in the month of August alone after the decision to set exemplarily punishments for the miscreants who littered the city. Debashis Malakar recently felicitated 50 people by awarding them with Rs 100 each, while 14 others were awarded Rs 500 each. The award was offered to those alert citizens, who to ensure a clean city, alert the GMC team about the miscreants who blatantly fouled the city. Ensuring sustainability of cleanliness in the city with the Swacchata Abhiyaan in mind, GMC has exempted fine of Rs 49,180 from July 25 to September 30. According to sources, maximum fine has been collected from food establishments who have not installed separate bins for wet and dry waste and from customers for litter the streets without properly discarding food packages.

GMC has been discreet about divulging the names of those who sent pictures through Whattsapp. Spitting after constantly chewing betel nut is another menace that the country cant easily seem to get rid of, as such, anyone found spitting on public places will be charged a fine of Rs 500. Also, Rs 2000 to 2500 has been fined to people who discarded garbage on the road-side. Ensuring sustainability of cleanliness in the city with the Swacchata Abhiyaan in mind, GMC has exempted fine of Rs 49,180 from July 25 to September 30. As per the new GMC notice, all new housing establishments must take effective measures for waste segregation. If not complied with, the trade license of such establishments will be cancelled. According to sources, maximum fine has been collected from food establishments who have not installed separate bins for wet and dry waste and from customers for litter the streets without properly discarding food packages.
