STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: Accusing the Government for their unconcerned attitude towards solving the issues of flood victims, the Assam Ekta Parishad (AEP) has come forward to create awareness about the issue. Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday, the Parishad appealed different bodies and organizations including all the intellectuals of Assam to come forward in solving the issue of flood and erosion victims. Assam Ekta Parishad informed that lakhs of families are now living in temporary camps. The Assam State Co-Ordinator Biren Deka claimed, “In the year 2015, a scheme was announced as Chief Ministers Special Scheme for rehabilitation of erosion effected families of Assam, as per the scheme a board was also formed to list the names of the beneficiaries. Hence the scheme never got materialized. As per the verdict by High Court the victims were again asked to file application as per the scheme. A total of 4,148 such applications were filed from the flood and erosion effected people of Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Jorhat, Kamrup (R) and Dhubri. But even after passing of 1 year and 7 month, the officials seemed to pay no attention for this burning issue.” Deka said, “Now the government is talking about implementing the CAB, but what are they doing for the sake of those indigenous who are crying for help and already suffering in this land. Our question to the government is that they are spending money in a non-scientific manner in the name of some impractical programme like Namami Brahmaputra and Pushkar Mela, but what will be their move in solving the miseries of lakhs flood and erosion effected victims?” Deka further said, “The party in power will be answerable when theyll visit those people by asking vote in the next election, if the government takes no action in solving this burning issue within this one and half year of their service.” Also Read: Inter-Ministerial Central Team visits Flood-affected areas in Chirang District Also Watch: Congress party and Rahul Gandhi must apologize to the country: Assam BJP
