STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOA) and the Tirap Autonomous District Council Demand Committee has jointly submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam on Friday, in view of certain demands. CCTOA chief coordinator Aditya Khaklari, while addressing the media on Tuesday, stated that the prime demand of the Committee is to ensure that the Tirap tribal belt is maintained encroachment free. “Various illegal immigrants have infiltrated the Tirap tribal and we urge the Government to protect the land. Also, the illegal tea gardens in the area should be shut down. Our other demands include ban on illegal transfer of land and ban on open coal mining. The Tirap Autonomous District Council Demand Committee has been continuously protesting with these demands, however, there has been no cease in such activities,” said Khaklari. The committee further stressed on enhancing the political consciousness and unity of the tribal population and it was decided that needful measures be taken. It was also decided that steps be taken for permanent solution of the unsettled issues pertaining to the tribal people. It was stressed in the memo that the several mini tribal communities in the Tirap-Assam and Arunachal Pradesh border such as the Singpho, Tangsa, Seama, Tai Khamyang, Tai Khamti, Mising, Sonowal-Kachari, and Deuri, be given a Tirap Autonomous District Council for protection of culture, language and tradition.
